We are currently looking for an experienced Dispensing Optician or Senior Optical Assistant to join our team. Could this be you? 

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Dispensing Optician/Experienced Optical Assistant at our family-run independent opticians in the Highlands of Scotland, you will be a crucial member of our dedicated team, responsible for providing exceptional eye care services and ensuring our patients find the perfect eyewear solutions. In addition to your dispensing responsibilities, this role offers the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities, including training and mentoring other staff, assisting with frame and product selection, and participating in the decision-making process.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Conduct thorough and accurate patient assessments, including measurements and fittings, to determine the appropriate eyewear solutions based on their needs, preferences, and prescriptions.

2. Assist patients in selecting frames, lenses, and other optical products, showcasing your expertise in niche eyewear and helping them find unique, stylish, and distinctive options.

3. Provide professional advice and guidance on lens options, coatings, and enhancements, ensuring optimal visual experience and addressing specific patient requirements.

4. Take accurate measurements for the manufacturing and fitting of eyewear, ensuring precision and attention to detail.

5. Adjust and repair frames as necessary, preserving their unique appeal and ensuring optimal fit and comfort for patients.

6. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of our product offerings, including frames, lenses, contact lenses, and accessories, and actively participate in the selection and procurement of new products and vendors.

7. Train and mentor other staff members, including optical assistants and trainee dispensing opticians, providing guidance and support to ensure consistent quality of service and adherence to best practices.

8. Collaborate with the practice manager and other team members to contribute to the decision-making process regarding marketing initiatives, product displays, and other aspects of practice operations.

9. Stay updated with the latest industry trends, advancements, and product knowledge, attending relevant training and professional development opportunities.

10. Foster and maintain strong relationships with patients, providing exceptional customer service, and ensuring their satisfaction with our services and products.

REQUIREMENTS

1. Qualified Dispensing Optician registered with the General Optical Council (GOC) or senior optical assistant with at least 3 years experience in practice.

2. Demonstrated experience and passion for niche eyewear, with a keen eye for unique and stylish frames.

3. Strong knowledge of optometry, lenses, frames, and various types of prescriptions.

4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with all patients.

5. Attention to detail and accuracy.

6. Proficiency in using relevant optical equipment and computer systems.

7. Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and contribute to a positive and collaborative workplace culture.

8. Flexibility to adapt to a changing work environment and willingness to learn and grow professionally.
