It’s a real pleasure to reminisce on how this all started. I was just a little boy when I was diagnosed with short sightedness, and who’d have known that those trips back and forth to the optician would result in me running two beautiful practices of my own.I enjoyed science subjects at school and during my sixth year at Ayr Academy I did the Higher Biology course. During my annual eyecheck at Kilgour’s Opticians, I was asked what I planned to do after leaving school. I replied something to do with science, but did not fancy becoming a teacher or working in a laboratory. He handed me a leaflet for the Ophthalmic Optics Degree course at Glasgow College of Technology (now Glasgow Caledonian University) and it ticked all the right boxes for me, my love of science plus working with people who would benefit from my skills and knowledge.
I can’t claim to have got here single-handedly however. I’d like to thank every member of my team, each of whom shares my passion for delivering unrivalled eye care. My family have also played a huge part in my success, supporting me through both the good times and the bad.
Congratulations Hugh, and well done!
